Dell M17X Review

Dell M17X is a great laptop. Itisquite simply, a beast of a machine featuring the latest in Intel chip technology, gallons of RAM and a seriously tasty design.

Dell M17x Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz P8600 CPU

4GB of RAM

250GB 7200-rpm hard drive

nVidia GeForce 9400M G GPU

DVD-RW drive

With  4GB of RAM and 160GB of storage space, an Intel Core  i7 620M processor running at 2.66GHz,  the M17x also features a CrossFire Dual 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 graphics card, meaning you can expect to be playing the very latest in processor-intensive 3D games. Windows 7 64bit is pre-installed to make the most of the hardware and you can specify that a full HD 17 inch monitor is included instead of the lower resolution but equally large monitor in the base model.

The 17-inch high-definition widescreen UXGA (1920 x 1200) LCD should provide a rich and detailed view of the latest games, movies, or other entertainment you're interested in watching. You can also expect the unusual appearance of a 16:10 aspect ratio (normally it would be 16:9) which gives you that extra little bit of room in terms of height.

The Dell M17x's keyboard is a full-size affair which offers a reasonable amount of resistance to the keys, a full numeric keypad and some shortcut buttons across the top. The full-sized keyboard with dedicated number pad and the large touchpad both feature the AlienFX lighting zones for enhanced visibility in a dark room.

On the left-hand side you get VGA, 2x USB, Display Port, HDMI, Ethernet, e-SATA and an IEEE 1394 mini-Firewire, while on the right you can expect Blu-ray drive, 2x USB, an 8-in1 card reader,  headphone, some surround sound speakers and a microphone.

Measuring 16.0 x 12.6 x 2.1 inches and starting at 11.6 pounds, the M17x is the type of notebook that requires a hernia belt just to lift off a desk.
